From the photograph, I would have thought that the last letter in the word London appears to have been obscured by the remains of originally applied braze?
It is still a die cast silvered officers...

No, collar badges were only required to be worn by officers of the regiment actually during the war, on SD, as an economy measure.

It is simply a rankers white metal collar badge, it would have originally had two copper lugs.
