To clarify,
The first two badges are rank badges, for Colonels and Brigadiers.
The rank badge worn by Sir John Gellibrand in the later photo is that of a Major General.

It was listed as a "WW1 unofficial badge", in the old badge books.
But, doubt it was worn as such on service.
I believe an Association badge, and would wear quite well as a tie pin.
Just a tad...

The turned up side of the hat has "pin" holes, potentially indicating the badge was post Vietnam, as at that time, mostly "1953-60" badges with lugs were worn. Very few "anodised" badges with pins...

Back then, they were referred to as "giggle hats".
And, no badges (metal or cloth) were worn on them.
Maybe some person added a badge to one of these at some stage, but, certainly not on field...
