It appears of excellent quality and should be gold and silver.

Is it hallmarked on the rear?

I have seen this style of Gladius Saw Back Short Sword described as both a Swiss Model 1842-75 Sapper & Pioneer’s and an Imperial German Pioneer’s.

I think it all depends on the makers...
