I think its a carry over from the 1908 kit change CB ..... even the Yeomanry regiments wore, what appear to be, loose older style chevrons. I am sure some of the uniform experts can tell us more.

The cap badges and medals that belonged to Tpr Metcalfe. Note also the large collars. He would have served in the 3rd Cav Div, 7th Cav Bde, alongside the 1st LG and the PAOLY.
