Is that a makers mark on the MGC collar badge?

If so I would say it's an officers that has never been given a bronze finish or is it gilt?

I think that the "10" is a collar badge worn by the 10th Btn Royal Fusiliers during the Great War, I believe they were known as the "stockbrokers" Btn.

David, I think you mean 6th East Surrey as opposed to 6th East Sussex.

Which I think is OK, although blackened brass are always IMO hard to judge.
