I believe that the a/a ones were worn by cadets up to the formation of the RRS. This is why they are so abundant.

If you open the ebay link the seller has a few from the same school. They all look to be pre 1935 and Cadet Corps. Interestingly no shoulder titles are being worn in any photos at that period.

They were collected by my grandfather who listed them all in pocket book and then they were in my great grandfathers' house until the 1990's when I was given them in an old cardboard box and a copy...

Out of my grandfather's collection of 10+ badges which date from WW2 era and earlier, only 2 were maker marked and both were FN Bham.

I would point out that post late 1940's/ 1950's the situation...
