It is not polished off. There is an actual piece soldered over the Onward part, but is professionally done so that without a jeweler's magnifier you cannot tell that it has a thin layer. :confused:

The first badge is a Polish Relief Society badge...

The first badge is a Polish Relief Society badge or pin. I have had several of these over the years and they are usually thin brass or tin. They mainly come from back East. Hope that helps.
