LdSH (RC) western rodeo buckle

The above discussion reminded me that I have somewhere in my accumulation a similar buckle that incorporates a regimental registered brand, an upright L with a lazy (lying on its side) S beneath it....

Doug and I served in Fort Chambly, 4 CIBG Germany, he in the OFP and I in Recce Sqn FGH, in the mid-1960s and reconnected many years later through a mutual interest in badge collecting. He is a fine...

E-bay offering

Goodness gracious, the vendor has gone through eleven world wars (11). His corner pf the world must be completely destroyed; the rest of us had difficulty coping with two (II):)

YELLOW-BANDED CAP

Some Canadian cavalry regiments, regular and militia, until 1970 wore peaked caps with coloured bands. e.g. green, yellow, white. Other ranks and junior officers' caps had plain peaks. Senior...

Army Branches

Why not go the whole hog and designate the successor to the RCASC, RCOC, RCPC and RCAPC as the Royal Canadian Logistics Corps. There is a precedent; the British Army has a Royal Logistics Corps, as...

There is only a very tenuous connection between the Order of Canada and the Canadian Forces, other than that they are both Canadian. The Order of Canada is very deliberately not awarded to people who...

PPCLI Repro Titles

I can't understand why he is reproducing them. I know a dealer in Kingston who has enough real ones to supply a battalion; he acquired them at the time of unification when it was decided to get rid...

Cap, mechanic

Having served 23 years in the RCAC, I can verify Ed Storey's identification of this piece of head gear as a mechanic's cap, never to be confused with a beret. It was worn predominately by RCEME...

Gibralter Defence Force

Hullo Simon,
You have obviously been brainwashed by your American neighbours insofar as spelling is concerned. Here in the true colonies (Canada) we stick (mostly) to British spellings for words...

RMC Badge

Bill,
Possibly a a badge for the buckle of the white waist belt. Mine has three lugs. To my knowledge, a pouch belt was never worn by RMC cadets.

Calgary Regiment (Tank)

I have one of these in my collection, sand cast rather than die stamped. Regimental lore has it that the Regiment ran short of cap badges in Italy, and the mechanics, or fitters as they were then...

Maj (LtCol) John Begg

Thanks Clive for filling in the details. He was considered too old for command by the time the Regiment was ready to move to Italy in 1943.

Forum Badge

Mine arrived last week and I have affixed it to my "badge show" vest for the next show in Etobicoke. I will be at Lou Grimshaw's table. The badge is a really fine piece of workmanship!

Trades badges

Were the hammer and tongs not also worn by shoeing smiths in the cavalry? I am intrigued by Sketchley Kid's post. The "Tongues" would presumably be used to lick the parts clean, while "Tongs" would...
