Thanks for the replies all. Out of interest the lugged badge is 3.5mm thickness over the scroll area, a standard badge (if there is one) is only 2mm.

This badge weighs twice as much as a normal cap badge. The metal used is very thick and the scroll is attached by two brass pins which go through the backing. It is smaller than a normal WW2 vintage...
