I have the same badge and it is from the same...

I have the same badge and it is from the same die.
It came from a dealer selling fakes and it cost me GBP 10.-
I am quite sure it is an older fake.

Belgian Army lion buttons have evolved over time. The current button is high concave and has a smooth lion, paws not claws and no rim.
The Belgian WWI buttons are low concave, the lions had claws...

That backmark is C.& P. / New York.
These buttons were imported in the 1820s and "examples are occasionally found at Civil War...

A slightly earlier button maker (R.Bushby) produced an identical button.
It is in the book "Livery Buttons" by Gwen Squire as "Manners, Duke of Rutland".

It is a US Rifles Militia button, listed in Albert's book (Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons) as RF28a, 20 mm, backmark may be Fine, Quality, but there are more 'quality' texts.
