I think this applies to various other regiments besides the Suffolks.Im sure the 8th Hussars were still wearing kc badges when they were amalgamated.

If i remember correctly,the regular btn of the Suffolks were serving somewhere in the far east immediately prior to amalgamation.So they would have been wearing jungle kit.

Hi Bess,the stags head is the thing that shouts "Gordons" to me,similar to the hat badge without the scrolls.The Seaforth stags head is smaller and less upright.

Ive had a 16th/5th Lancers badge with the same sort of fixing,i was led to believe that they were used in the belt plate.
Sidehat badge does sound a good explanation though.
