Thanks guys. The info I have gives the soldier’s name and number with ‘6 Troop’, the number is in the Leicestershire Regt block so maybe he was attached to another unit.

Which formations used the designation ‘troop’ during WW2? I’ve seen it on something relating to a soldier who is almost certainly infantry, unless of course he is attached to another unit

They do look a bit odd but I don’t think they’re faded. It looks to me like the colour from the leather has leached out into the fabric. They don’t look to be British issue either
