Hi Alex! I hope you're keeping well.
Yes, there is a crown and anchor between RNVR and SOUTH AFRICA. Even with the aid of a large magnifier it is difficult to make out what is visible on some of...

This is the cypher adopted by King Charles III. This is the cypher that the press release referred to and which will be worn as a badge by personnel at the Coronation.

These are not the new King's Crown navy badges - just an example of poor promo from the MoD. What the release is actually referring to is a CIIIR cypher badge that is to be worn by personnel at the...

The 'USMC Commando' titles were supposedly worn by US Marines attached to/serving with the Royal Marines. They are apparently completely bogus (according to RM Senior NCOs).

Hi Alex
There's some info on Marconi Radio Operators during the First World War here:

No information on uniforms or insignia I'm afraid.

Kings crown Officers gilt button with lines
Hi Barry
That's the same backing as found on the fashion buttons here.
As you say having the lined background is probably a way of getting around the laws relating to official insignia.

Morning Barry
A LOT of these Kings crown/lined buttons turn up in the UK. They are generally dismissed as being fashion items. Can you show an image of the back please? Thanks.

Hi Nozzer
You are correct! I forgot that the badge was re-introduced for wear in 1939 by Class III ratings. But the information I gave was also correct.
