Hard to say - it would have been in the ground from I guess 1919 to 1986 or so. I does look like its in very good condition for a badge supposedly buried in the ground for nearly 50 years.

Very strange. Maybe lost by one of the Australians who was there in 1919 to recover bodies etc? The UK made Rising Suns would only have been issued to soldiers from 1916 to 1918.

Not that I know of. I assume qualified soldiers will continue to wear them until they leave the army. The Army Standards of Dress may contain more information.

I would say individual.

Delta Coy 6RAR was the first RAR subunit to be para trained and that was in the mid 1980s. 3RAR then became paratroopers up until a couple of years ago.
