Both spot on examples. You are right about there being three variants of the 1916 badge. That being said, I am always keen to find if there are any more of course.

As you can see it is easy to miss these dates and I only found out after owning the 1916 one for some time....

Also, is there any more of the photo? It is definitely a coil of rope with harpoon and lightning, but if there is a letter "S" underneath, it could be a Harbour Defence Operator.
