thank you for the clarification, it is appreciated. It came in a job lot of Indian badges and I suspect that it was mistaken for a 5th Mahratta Light Infantry badge.

Having recently accidentally purchased a button to this battalion I now seem to have purchased a badge with a nearly identical design in a job lot.

I am not sure if the badge is genuine or not but...

Royal Wiltshire Yeomany or Denbighshire Hussars?

Probably an impossible question to answer but this, now brooched badge, has the Birmingham Hallmark for 1916 if I am reading it correctly. It appears that it might originally have had loops.
