Now the ones with chains on I can definitely see as being sweetheart badges as the chain is a safety feature to stop the badge from being lost.

For most headdress, the slider seems suitable. The problem with a traditional slider is that it could quite easily fall out of the Foreign Service Helmet puggaree. A pinned badge won't fall out. ...

What makes you so sure it wasn't used in any headdress of any sorts? There is some evidence to show that broached badges were used in Foreign Service Helmets.

Normally I would say it was so it could be fitted to a pagri but did the GMGC serve in hot places?
