Unlike the cloth version they are not that scarce, they do pop up from time to time, they are like the SATC and SAAF (straight type for the last mentioned) types, suspect made by the same company.

Red backing was I believe associated with becoming an NCO. Back in the mid 1970's my brother on becoming a Lance Bombadier, was only then entitled to wear red felt behind his beret badge....
