Gwen Squires book shows a similar design button to yours on Plate 10. It is described as a small Officers' silver button to the Surrey Rifle Volunteers.

There is a line drawing of the button in post 1 in English Infantry Militia Buttons 1775-1881 by Ripley & Darmanin. It's described as Sussex Militia [1778], pewter, flat, design in relief.
