Is the card marked Southend or Battersea - is...

Is the card marked Southend or Battersea - is that the maker or the photographer? To be honest without the date I would say it was a new recruit from 1915.

I reckon it's 1914 because if it was 1917 then...

I reckon it's 1914 because if it was 1917 then the uniform would be old pattern. He has the pleated pockets, brass T titles and the peaked cap with stiffened rim that suggest early war not latter war...
