Don't think the crown is missing, the back plate is too low and doesn't have the third hole, so it's a porky eagle on it's own. I'm lost as to its purpose though, looks too new to be a sleeve eagle

Can anyone tell me what this flash represents please?

It's on a pith helmet I bought blind as RAF. Clearly it isn't that but I haven't a clue what it is. Some have suggested RFC but I'm not sure.

From memory, there were a number of these badges produced, one for each station that housed a SAR flight. I think 22 Squadron produced something similar too

Agree, some sort of guide to determining the age of these badges would be useful. Sometimes I just can't tell.

WWII Rank chevrons ?

The single stripe chevrons are probably post war Junior Technician stripes, worn inverted on the upper sleeve. I have a feeling that apprentices had a single stripe chevron but I can't find...

I've been to COsford twice in the last three weeks and yes it is definitely worth a visit. The Cold War exhibition is imaginitive but not good for photographing the aeroplanes.

What's been said...

I have a patrol dress uniform, privately purchasedd and made in Lahore. The rank markings are on only one arm and the cap is made without any stiffening and I doubt if it was capable of being worn

The Fiat is now with the RAF Museum, it took a bullet in a fuel line and force landed. Somehow it survived the war and was until recently on display at Hendon, not sure where it is now
