In the unlikely event that this fools someone, I thought I’d highlight a brazen fake on Ebay. Another fantasy Lt. McCallum badge. Reported but naturally Ebay took no action. As far as I’m concerned...

Quite interesting little amateur film, which actually conveyed quite well the conditions, the mechanical challenges and the necessity to improvise. I think I spoke to the Canadian expedition leader...

Eight years late...! One very like this in brass has just sold on Ebay for 700. To my mind, it was a real first pattern, and had detail distinct from the later war badges.

Kings Own

There's a Private 2284 J Bell buried in the cemetery in Rye. He died 6th Oct 1915. CWGC list him as KOLR, 41 Bn. So, am I correct that he'd have been a Home Service territorial? Any ideas how he...

Are they on secondment from the Dagenham Girl Pipers...? Lucky for them nobody decided to invade while they were refining the finer points of that spectacle!!

Fretted badge

Again, Clive, I think you're curiosity can be quickly satisfied. Why was it made? So saps like us spend afternoons talking about it and kidding ourselves it was perhaps fretted out from a tin of war...

Hi Clive,

As you say, the badge doesn't look right, and the detail is very soft - is that supposed to look like spit and polish? Unusual for a PPA badge, as they weren't really a parade ground...

Re the hat, I think that's all the explanation you need!

Regarding the gold PPA badge. That is interesting. I'm fairly sure Anne Peniakoff, VP's daughter has a gold badge, but I'll see if I can...

Thanks to you both for sparing the time to share that excellent info. I'm very grateful for the detail. I'll tell my folks.

I'll ask my family to dig out some photos too - my Grandad had a...

Yes, I did wonder that, having seen yours, but it doesn't seem symmetrical - not a diamond, as I seem to recall yours is. I couldn't see stitch marks either, but I'll have another look. No idea where...

I'm continuing to enter into (an increasingly heated) debate with a gent known to this site, who's robustly defending his fantasy that his lot (an alleged PPA forage cap) is a genuine article. I have...

Thanks, Marc. Hmmm, I wonder where his went, then? Being an artificer, he made a lot of 'trench art', and I know his cap badge was on an ashtray at some point, so maybe he applied the 'cat' to...

I found my badge last night, hunting in the dark in the bedside cabinet by the light of my iPhone - wife was asleep!

Terrific. Thank you so much, Marc and Eddie.

The one pictured is exactly like one of the ones I had (or may still have), I can't find either right now... The other is slightly less 'primitive',...

Bengal Rocket Troop/Battle of the Omars (Qineiquina)

Having just read the very stirring account of the Beja battle on the forum, I wonder if anyone knows anything about the 1st Field Regt's action at the Battle of the Omars (or Qineiquina) in Nov 1941?...

Forage Cap

Yes, I'd like to hear that too, but I'm afraid it's not going to wash, whatever it is. FoPPA has, as near as damn it, the full unit list for PPA. Nobody by the name of Richmond was ever seconded to...

Forage Cap

Interestingly, and somewhat annoyingly, having reported it to Ebay about three times now, the cap is still listed. The vendor emailed me to express that he found my initial contact 'threatening', but...

Hi,

Re the LB&B Co. badges, the tantalising 'what ifs?' and 'maybes...' are creeping in again!:)

These were produced in the '70s in London by a militaria dealer off the Strand. Please see the...
