I've added an image of my 1942 hm AAC collar to the attachments in post #1.
The lugs look pretty similar to the ones on the wm badge I think.
I might be wrong...

I think you are right "that the sealed pattern badge is a very close if not identical match to a Gaunt pattern badge".

It has the same die flaws and the "ugly falling lion" as the badge that Luke shows in his post #5 and link.
