I may be off target here, but could the badge be the OR's bronze one that you showed a few posts back?

My mistake - the bronzed badge you showed was a post 1936 pattern in a different thread.

From your reference to a 1916 pattern badge are you thinking of a brass badge as being a British economy issue rather than a Canadian badge or am I misunderstanding?

An Army Air Corps beret "badged" to the Black Watch.
The beret is a "KANGOL" with Imperial size stamp and no other markings.
There is a semi circular badge stiffener behind the government pattern...
