18th Manitoba Mounted Rifles

Although the 221st isn't perpetuated by them, the bulldog is almost certainly borrowed from the 18th Manitoba Mounted Rifles cap badge design.

Good to see.

It would appear that emailing and explaining why it is a repro had a result.

Thanks - great primary source information

Thank you for posting this thread, with original source documentation for us all to cut, paste, and file.

Shootemup, Servie Pub, and Michael Dorosh have all effectively summarised the arguments in...

The "no atheists in foxholes" claim is typical of the bigotry that atheists still encounter from religionists. It's not true and it's meant to be demeaning of others, which sums up religion rather...

Gaelic

Yes, the motto is frequently mis-spelled "GUIDICH" rather than the correct "CUIDICH". The " 'N" rather than "AN" in the Seaforth motto is also odd to me - there's no need to abbreviate "AN" to " 'N";...

Nice little set.

If you are interested in varieties, the UofT have versions with the flat "Imperial" crown as well as the more standard (and later) Tudor Crown. There are also different metals used for several...

I'm surprised they're not abolished, and replaced by trained counsellors and psychiatrists. It's 2014, not 1514, the taxpayer should not be paying for religious proselytisers within any civil service...

The point of raising this isn't "semantics", the point was to correct incorrect usage (people always cry "semantics" when someone corrects their usage). I would do the same if someone was repeatedly...

Americanism.

That's an Americanism that I have never heard used in the Canadian military in 24 years. OR is the term previously used in the Canadian military, and NCM is the term primarily used in the Canadian...

What does "EM" mean? Electro-magnetic? Or are you trying to say "OR's", or "NCMs"?

Presumably. We started with 48 candidates (4 Sections x 12) and finished with 24 candidates (3 Sections x 8). It was the 90s, so there was still a lot of bs on this course - much more than on PLQ...

Short answer: A Jnr Lead Crse, Cbt Lead Crse, and Inf Sec Cmdr Crse were all supposed to running at Petawawa in spring 1995, so people from several units were sent there. When we all arrived, we were...

I can attest to the authenticity of those cap badges.

I took the Infantry Section Commanders Course at Petawawa in the late spring/early summer of 1995 - just as The Canadian Airborne Regiment was being disbanded after Somalia. I can verify that the SSF...

An opportunity wasted.

This JTF-2 thing is a biker tattoo, not proper Canadian insignia. For starters, the half globe should be stylised, not a space photo, and the dagger should be a Sykes-Fairbairn, not a piece of...

I've had mine for several years - my records say I bought it in 2005. Who knows when it was made - it could even be a patrol blues badge from the 1920s or 30s, I suppose.

EDIT: Looking at the...

Hi Bill. The one I have is chrome but the same pattern as The Wellington Regiment. I have always assumed that, since it's chromed, it's used currently by cadets, and isn't something that was used in...

That's what I'd assume.

I think you can comfortably assume it's for the U of Toronto; and since Ellis made items aren't encountered after WWI it's also safe to assume it's from the Great War era.

It would be easy enough to territorialise Britain's traditional infantry regiments

This is an interesting topic and question. There were two mistakes the British made: (1) they failed to foresee just how many infantry and armour units their army would cut over the next 50 years...

Chrome too.

I have a chromed cap badge for The Wellington Rifles, so as well as using grey metal the cadets in Guelph must also use chrome badges.
