I suspect with a tooth brush you’re being too soft if it’s got a heavy patina to it. Cloth, polish and elbow grease.

Old pickle vinegar will strip off tarnish, verdigris etc. so may save you some...

I agree re the badge, if that is a fake then the hobby would be in deep trouble! Personally I think it’s a beautiful badge and lovely quality - I actually like the back better than the front.

Like Andy and Alan say the scroll has been added and is fake. Look at the terrible seeding, looks like sandpaper. Someone’s recent attempt to turn a £20 badge into a £40 badge.

I’ve never ever seen a genuine badge with hollow jewels. I strongly suspect they were all made by the same hand. Either a deliberate mistake or perhaps copying from a b/w photo...

Not quite. I meant the FN Border Regt die is easily identifiable by the flaw under the crown. Genuine and restrike badges both have this flaw, hence deciding if the badge is genuine...
