This is really difficult as I am looking at images of the MKI & MKII safety catches and can't see an obvious difference :confused:
The thing is, I am 99% sure my Great-Grandfather is in the photo...

Looking on Lee-Metford pages the Mk II was introduced in 1892 & I can see that the magazine on the one on the left is indeed that type but can't see more detail than that in rgard to the safety catch?

Yep, that's him. He got the unusual initials due to the fact he was born in 1900 when my Great-Grandfather was serving in the CIV - City Imperial Volunteers.
