Ref the Sgt i/c - A E Charman - you will find much about him on the British Medals Forum circa 2011.Awarded DCM and MM and MC in WW1;served RIC
and then HKP,CSM on Home Duties in WW2.Interesting...

Burma Star, Badge Attachment " Ying"

I have ww2 Burma Star group of three boxed to (T.R.Stribling, Burton on Trent.) Attached to the Star is a small ,circular ,pinned brooch bearing the Chinese character Ying (meaning British/Britain)...

In Africa we wore slouch hats bearing the unit badge slid into the front of the pugarree,when on rifle drill the badge was removed to the left side and secured the flap up,thus preventing skewering...
