Looks like someone sanded down the NZ and the ONWARD scroll. This was sometimes done in order to create a very bright polish on the badge and maybe for a bit of individualism from the other guys.

The badge looks OK to me, but the brooch fitting is typically seen on 1960-1970's badges, so this has either been re-broached or is a later made item.

They may have also served in Durban Harbor and/or Port Elizabeth Harbor, but I am not sure of these two.
