Unhappy "I thought it was only the media that was Fake!" - D Trump

What all this portends is actually quite worrying for this area of collecting. Reproductions are commonplace in every area of trading both in new items and vintage ones. How on earth someone joining...

Sinister Goings On - Connaught Rangers make a comeback!

Looking around a number of auctions in the South of England I have noticed that SAS in Thatcham recently and now an auction in Liss both had Connaught Rangers Glengarry badges as part of a job lot. I...

Auction House

It was SAS at Thatcham, Paul. I would not blame them specifically, although the missing "Q" was a bit of a clue. All lots are freely open to be examined by potential buyers and clearly a bit of...

Not a Stag do after all!

Thank you all for your replies and the correction to my mis-identification - not just of the badge but the wretched creature as well!

Nothing wrong with a bit of pedantry, it's what makes the...

A Stag Done!

Gentlemen

Thank you both for your reply. I suppose the answer was obvious but never occurred to me as I knew the person who gave me the beret which had belonged to a relative. A little more...

A Stag Do?

I am baffled by these two badges. Both clearly Royal Warwickshire Regiment and I know for sure that the brown one is genuine. Perhaps someone could explain why they face in opposite directions?

Hyderabad then!

Great anecdote - I have not lost any sleep over the deal, just as well as it was in 1965!!

Best

5th Hyderabad!

Peter M

Thanks for this information. In all these years I had never attributed any significance to the "V" - stupid of me. I will have a look at the page you suggest.

The badge incidentally was...

Another larger example

This one of a pair - considerably larger than the others. It seems to me that any unit that is Prince of Wales Own would use this emblem. It would be good to narrow it down.

Thanks all,

Andrew

Unusual Suffolk Regiment Collar Badge

Could someone please put a date on these collar badges. I have a pair and despite a search online I have not seen anything similar. I am assuming around WW1 as that would fit in with the collection I...

Hyderabad or good?

I have owned this badge for around fifty years. Never really took it seriously as it is crudely made with a pin fastening and wasn't sure if it was a police badge locally produced which is way...

POW Feathers

Leigh, Tim and Kevin,

Thanks for your replies - it is good to clarify at least the Welch Regiment items. I had not realised that one of these was a shoulder badge. Collar badges seem a whole...

Two badges Queens Bays and Dorsets not headress?

Please see the two badges attached. One is clearly the Dorsets but from where? Pouch badge?

The second is about cap badge size but is a variant I could not locate in K & K. Any suggestions please?...

God Bless The Prince of Wales - His badge is everywhere!

In the process of trying to catalogue the small number of collar badges I have accumulated over the years I have found it difficult to distinguish between the various units that used the POWs...

The Dreaded Elephant!

Thanks Alan, I thought it was too much to hope for!

I hadn't realised how rare the double scroll version is, which would have indicated to me that this was unlikely to be the real thing.

Best...

Pursuing the Persians

Thank you Clay, that is really helpful. I have a few not so fond memories of the Gendarmerie so it is interesting to know I have one of their cap badges!

The round one I referred to earlier could...

The Persian Army

Thanks, that would make sense. I do have a couple of the round wreath with lion badges that look as if they would have to be sewn on to what ever head gear they were worn on.

I wasn't sure of the...

The Persian Army?

I picked a number of these badges up when I was in Iran in the late 1970s - just before the Shah left. They are all the same and un-issued. They appear to be locally made and not of the highest...

19th PWO Hussars - White Elephants?

Two of these came in a recent auction lot. Having discovered one fake in the batch I was a bit concerned to find two 19th Hussars variants in the box. Are they the real thing?

One I already owned...

Dying Hard!

Gerard & Brian

Here is the offending item. The more I look at it the more convinced I am that it is not right. Something odd going on around the "ICH". Looks like a large lump of brazing and a...

Collared!

Thanks Brian, that is very clear and helpful. Unfortunately I suspect then the cap badge I have is a fake! Another one from this auction bundle.

Best regards

Further thought

I have just realised that the collar badge has "Albuhera" as a battle honour across the bottom as opposed to "South Africa 1900 -02" which appears on the other Diehards badges I have.

Curious.
