Yes R8 is probably The Rifles. Bright colours can be seen as black on rifle green could not!

D is possibly "Discharge" platoon or holding for back squadding?

Seems likely that S plus number is for platoons in the Scottish Division Company. Likewise the K and Q series for the King's and Queen's Division Companies. However, I have not seen any in the L for...
