The only difference between the star in the first post and the ones I wore either side of the cloth badge on my cub's cap is the fixings.

These badges if original would be over 100 years old and may have picked up a lot of grime.

This badge is not South African, the South Africa and the dates are battle honours for the 17th (Stepney and Poplar) Btn, The London Regiment.

As to whether this badge is an original I will let...

I would say £70 was a bit over the top for this title even if it is an original with backing plate, as David said these titles have been reproduced and with a little wear and a polish are getting...

Luke, having compared my badge against the one shown in the Marsh catalogue mine is voided above and below the "MDCCC" scroll whereas the Marsh one looks to be solid.

I presume these were worn while Burma was part of the Empire.
