Parachute regiment swagger stick?

4 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone.

This is my first post, so please excuse any clumsiness in terminology etc.

I recently bought this swagger stick which has the parachute regiment insignia on it. It has a white metal top, but no hallmarks. May be plate. It is leather covered so possibly an officer's stick? It has certainly been used as the patina on the leather is darker at the top, and the metal top has several scratches and dings in it. Do you think it is genuine?

As a bit of context, my grandad was in the paras right at the end of ww2 but didn't want to talk much about it. This his not his stick, but I bought it as it reminded me of him as he has sadly passed away.

Any info gratefully received. Many thanks. Jason.

Jason,

Welcome firstly and secondly yes its genuine.

Its a Senior NCO's Cane or stick dating from pre 1952 as it bears the Kings Crown of George the Sixth.

Could be wartime or after. The top will be plated.

Officers had plain short sticks or leather covered and in WW1 period had walking sticks.

Other ranks had 'swagger sticks' much thinner and flexible smaller sticks.

Nice item

regards

Many thanks Simon, and thanks for the welcome also.

This is very helpful information. Am so pleased that it is genuine- I shall make sure to take care of it.

Thanks again and best wishes.
Jason.
