Canadian Militia?

Am I right in thinking this is a generic Victorian badge to the Canadian Militia?

If so could someone kindly explain the significance of the badge being in WM please. Until this one I’d only ever seen GM or gilt examples.

I do not believe the attached badge is plated as there appears to be a Gaunt plaque to the reverse still appears brass.

Hi Luke,
The badge is the Victorian era general list badge, which was worn by both the militia and corps or services who did not have an authorized badge. Being in white metal, it is likely a rifles regiment badge.

Many thanks Bill, very interesting to hear of the possible Rifles connection. Would never have occurred to me as you know generally British Rifle units more typically wore BB insignia.
