Falklands book

40 years ago I was working in Plymouth when the Falklands War started - seeing a large part of the task force assemble and depart, I developed a lifelong interest in the conflict and bought almost every book that was published on the war after it was over. As you can imagine there was a “rush to print “ by officers from all three services, as well as historians and journalists. My favourite book by a long way is one that came out a few months after the war had ended written by two journalists who had accompanied the task force Robert McGowan and Jeremy Hands - entitled “Don’t cry for me Sergeant Major”. The authors make no claim to it being the definitive history of the war - rather a first hand account of their interaction with soldiers, sailors , marines - unembellished - at times hysterically funny at others incredibly moving - I recommend it unreservedly. Same here Tim, really great book. I was serving in Osnabruck at the time but got my mum to keep a copy of a national news paper every day of the conflict, which I still have. And like you bought every book I could find. Was thinking of donating them to the Falklands memorial chapel just down the road at Pangbourne, that have most of them there.
Regards to all

Neil

I still have a copy of this book - and I treasure it!
