Dating a RM badge WW1 or later?
 

Hi,

This well polished RM badge came with a group of WW1 medals to a Royal Marine.

I wonder if forum members can advise it's era of manufacture?

It has brasso/silvo residue on reverse and looks to be genuine.

Post 1923 when RMLI and RMA amalgamated and yes it’s genuine.

Would mean the badge is not his as he was out of the Marines in 1919.

As stated above this pattern of badge was introduced in 1923 when the Royal Marine Artillery and the Royal Marine Light Infantry were combined to form the Royal Marines. It was used from 1923 until the Queen's Crown version of the badge was introduced in 1953. It was used throughout WW2.

If your medal recipient left the Marines in 1919, then there is no way the badge you have could have been worn by him. His medals should state if he was in the RMA or the RMLI. Both of them had their own distinctive cap badges.
