Private William Alan Jones 297 11th Light Horse

Hi all,

It saddens me when I find items like this. A portrait photograph with a clear Light Horseman standing proudly before you with his simple biographic details of his full name, where and when he was born and died, his marriage details and that of his parents. And then someone has gone and ripped it in half an then pieced it back together.

Private William Alan Jones 297 was a stockman from Rockhampton in the 11th Light Horse. Having enlisted on the 4 January 1915 he sailed on the HMAT A30 Borda on 16 June 1915 and saw service in the desert campaign. He returned to Australia on the 26 July 1919. I haven't researched anything further about him.

Lest We Forget, Dean

Destroying the past

I find such stupid vandalism totally abhorrent, what mindless idiots do is beyond belief.

Whats important is that there are people like us who preserve history for the benefit of future generations.

Yes it is vandalism and I am appalled at some families and or individuals total disregard for history, service and sacrifice, cheers Dean.

Hi Dean

At least hes been saved by your good self and is now in good and caring hands. The damage could have been worse and you will be able to research his service history.

Mate you are the man for the job.

I had a mother in law who smashed 2 pianos, burnt 6 Windsor chairs and threw out a whole box of her family photos. What a bitch, lucky shes dead now !! He he !!

Regards

Phil.

I think we all do our best at preservation thanks Phil and sadly Jack it is the real world but I should like to think by own children have a little more respect, cheers Dean.
