Can you please explain why there is a crown on there and no RAF rank braid?
regards |
These plain epaulettes were worn by officers holding special appointments, which in turn were denoted by a cypher or similar emblem (so the badge was not worn directly on the shoulder). The rank braid was worn on the cuff.
All such cyphers worn in the RAF carry the crown of the then current sovereign. This particular device (cypher) was used by the Air Aide de Camp to King George VI, as stated, and also by Honorary Physicians and Surgeons to the King, and the Equerry and Extra Equerry to the King. |
Excellent, thank you.
