Royal Canadian Artillery Badge
 

I picked this up recently and am trying to track down when the badge was likely to have been issued. I’m aware it’s pre-1953 and the only other examples I’ve seen have listed it as a Garrison Artillery badge (I’m not sure whether this label is correct, though).

Hello ajc347. The badge you have is obviously the type with the CANADA banner. It was worn by the reserve (militia) elements of the Canadian Field Artillery and Canadian Garrison Artillery until circa 1936. The permanent army artillery wore the same badge until circa 1927, when those components became the Royal Canadian Artillery. They adopted the UBIQUE pattern badge at that time.

Hey Bill, that's interesting to know that the Non-Permanent Active Militia elements of the artillery wore the Canada banner badge until 1936. I thought the whole of the force had changed over in 1927.

Lugs
 

I’ve never seen diagonal lugs on this pattern or any other Canadian artillery cap badge, and looks like it has a spinning wheel.

I think these may be British made badges. Examples appear with UBIQUE and a moving wheel, and the Territorial Artillery laurel wreath in the top scroll without moving wheel. I hadn't seen lugs though, just sliders.
