I would say it's not an original. The comical horses face and colour of the badge, slider etc.

Its a very skeletal horse too, not a good sign.

There are two versions, a thin horse and a fat horse.

A bit late i know, Yes they are bad copies and do not be disheartened, as we all fall foul of bad dealers and badges.
It is the learning process we all have to endure, to become good collectors and to show off our excellent collections and displays.

I have added my 3 identical badges, but all original makes. You will be able to take good notes from the images and i have also added rhe 3 different versions made over their few years of existance.

1890's, c1910 and c1930's (pre WW2) It was amalgamated into the Army Veterinary Corps thereafter.

ARS badges do not seem to have been issued but were certainly widely worn. I can only surmise that they were privately bought but officially recognized/tolerated.

It is always interesting finding out new (I know it's old) information for unit badges. I truely did not know that, thank you for sharing it.

That is exactly the same information as the RCT/MSO badges. They were all unofficially made, worn and tolerated. I know they were worn, cos i had friends who joined up, after leaving the Army in Germany and decided to stay. It was then decided that they should refrain from cutting out the Queens Cypher in the centre of the RCT cap badges and instead attach the MSO badges over the top of the centre piece as it was noted as not best practise to leave it to continue to take place.

Comical/smiling faces seems to be a good red light warning of a fake badge for several badges with animals from what I've been reading here. Am I right in that thought?
