In Memoriam- Lincoln Boys who laid down their lives in the Great War
 

Evening all,

Picked up this nice little book today( for the princely sum of £2.95)while gambling around in the next county up, there are a substantial number of photographs of those from Lincoln, all regiments, not just Lincolnshire Yeomanry as cover suggests, who died in the First World War. If anyone is researching anyone that would apply to, I'm happy to share the relevant photo.

Steve, there are a few Walkers but your man isn't listed. The book is a memoriam of men of Lincoln killed so possibly your Walker was not from Lincoln despite being Lincs Yeomanry. That or its an omission.

That looks like an excellent little book Alli - good result!

Most of my family members who died were village lads or from the north end of the Shire, unfortunately, so doubtful any of them with be immortalised therein - shame, it'd be nice to know what they looked like (I think I only have a tiny grainy photo of one of the four).

Hiya, yes it wouldn't include them unfortunately. It's nice to have photos, I very recently was given a photo of my Great Uncle who was killed on HMS Vanguard. After doing the research and feeling I knew little bit more about him, seeing his image was quite a thing, emotional. And the strong family resemblance was remarkable.
You never know what will turn up.

Very true - I thought I'd hit a brick wall with researching the First World War service of my great grandfather, as his records were nowhere to be found from the usual sources. He apparently rejoined the army in the 1939-45 War though, so it seems likely that his combined records will be preserved at the MoD, but I had no idea of his later service number or indeed the regiment he served with...

Until last week however, when I chanced upon a hitherto unseen pension record for him which had his later service details! Overjoyed doesn't even come close :)

Aah that is brilliant, what a breakthrough, I wrote off to the MOD many years ago and was lucky to get my grandads combined WW1, interwar and WW2 service records, it was transcribed, I'm going back to probably 1999, so I keep thinking to apply again in the hope I might get a copy of the original.
But isn't it fab when you have a major breakthrough like that? It really does give you a lift. It just shows you that sometimes it pays off to not give up. Well done!
