Rhodesian Silver Plated BSAP collars ?
 

Yesterday I was offered a tin box of Rhodesian buttons and insignia. The seller had no idea about who the bits had belonged to, but it was obvious that they had come from a Senior Assistant Commissioner of the BSAP. A pair of silver plated collar badges intrigued me. The badges are commonly found in brass and were worn from the 1920s to the 1960s ( I believe) This is the first time that I have seen them in silver plate and am wondering whether senior BSAP officers wore these in plated silver . Can anyone help ?

Hi the badges are not BSAP but may be Staff Corps

That makes sense. Any idea as to when the badges were likely to have been worn ?

Depending on material any time between 1926 and 1980 but there is one small fly in the ointment I can find no reference of them in silver but this dont mean they weren't made in silver Btw are there any makers marks and can i see the backs. As an aside female police officers and cadets wore chrome cap badges and I think collars

Definitely silver plate . I tested for silver and although surface metal tested positive for silver , the underlying metal is probably white metal.
As I said earlier, the badges were in a tin with mostly BSAP items. Maybe I'm misdirecting myself in assuming that this is also BSAP.

For what it is worth, these are not BSAP badges. They are General Service Corps collar badges. Some blokes took to silver or gold plate them to make less work cleaning them. As a general service badge they were worn by various army units during and just after WW 2. There is also photographic evidence of these badges worn as collars on RAF uniforms by Rhodesians attached to the RAF. Will post some examples as reference when I am back home.
