SPECIAL CONSTABULARY ARM BAND

1 Attachment(s)
Would appreciate help from a Forum member to date this arm band. It is made from a thick material, embroidered through and joined together by two small safety pins. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Malcolm.

It probably dates from the 1st world war, before the issue of uniforms.

Malcolm.

Interesting item, I wonder how many Special Constables Surrey would have had during the War and how numbers would have been allocated.

Not sure if you have seen this site but might be worth a look and enquiry.

The number on the band does not, in all probability, relate to the actual number of special constables in post. Numerous systems of numbering were used by different forces and this needs to be considered before drawing any conclusions.

Hello Dave.

Thank you for the additional info. Much appreciated.

Although its outside of my collecting interests I am pleased that it has turned out to be more interesting that I thought it might be.

Kind regards, Malcolm.
