39th Worcestershire Rifle Volunteers Badge

Hi all. Picked this up with a group including a First World War souvenir belt. I believe it to be correct and original even if a little bent out of shape. Am I right in thinking that this is an ORs example? Any opinions are welcome. Many thanks.

That is a fake I am afraid.

Lots of fake numbered rifles bugle horn badges about.

The quality of it is due to poor manufacture and worn dies.

Dont forget it purports to be over 130 years old and in those days things were well made.

The 'wear' to the front is not due to its age.

I’d agree the die looks worn as opposed to the badge being polished. Couple very evident die flaws.

Could this be an old ‘Fox’ restrike Simon?

Those loops, especially the one of the left - bent, opened out, toned black, not footed, braze has gone black too with age. Not impossible to fake but lot of effort required. In short those loops easily look 100 years old to my eyes and I’d be happy with them on a Victorian/Edwardian cap badge.

Authenticity aside IMO it does has some age to it.

Cheers,
Luke

Luke,

I think FOX reproduced just Line Regiment glengarry badges, but could be wrong. Nonetheless their copies were using dies that were not that old and were not worn out, just no longer used.

The age on this badge is reproduced chemically. Blackening loops is simple with gun black and other such things.

See here for another on ebay, this time described as West Riding.

I show this to compare the quality of appearance on the ebay one as opposed to the one on here.

I make no judgement on the seller or authenticity!

regards
