UK Cossack :-D

Greetings all,
I ended up here via Keith Blakeman who recommended the site to me.
I am a long-time collector of Imperial Russian items, particularly Cossack items as this is part of my family background. I also collect R.M.L.I (mainly Victorian era) 2nd VB East Surreys (Sutton Detachment) & City Imperial Volunteers as my Maternal Great-Grandfather was a musketry-instructor for these units.
R.M.L.I & R.M.A of WWI are also of interest as my Great-Uncles served with them, a 3rd Great-Uncle went on to become a Brigadier & was ADC to the Queen which I guess is pretty good!
I would be happy to hear from anyone with similar collecting interests or indeed happy to give advice, particularly on the Imperial Russian side as I'm guessing there won't be too many here with that interest.
I look forward to future correspondence!
Best regards to you all......Andy

Hello Mate!
yeah long time indeed! Hope life is treating you well? I was strangely just talking about you in regard to that auction sniper thing - i never tried it & wondered if it was safe to use considering they ask for your ebay password!!!
Cheers...Andy

Not on me, but my parents have a painting and possibly some pictures of him. I will ask next time I see them.

Hello Andy, and welcome to the Forum,
You may be just the chap to positively identify this badge which I posted on another thread during the last few days. It measures 35x21mm and is 10mm deep.
Thanks, Tinto

Hi Tinto,
It is a collar badge that has been made into a brooch. These small insignia are usually worn on the collars of civil officials, I can't quite make out the bottom of the badge but can see an anchor - it there is an axe going the other way to it then it is a railway official!
I hope this helps :-)
Regards....Andy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for that. At the base, on the right, seems to be a sword or sceptre, the top part of which looks like a bird with outstretched wings.
As I said earlier in this thread, the brooch fittings look original and there appear to be no sign of any lugs. Where would you expect to find lugs on such a badge, N-S, E-W?
Cheers, Tinto

I would need to see the bottom half of the badge a bit better if possible to see exactly what there is crossing the anchor. the eagle is just the imperial russian eagle. the lugs are usually placed E-W but it might be worth looking behind the brooch fitting to see if it had a small screwpost
Regards...Andy
