British Legion Womens Badges

Does anybody know if the Womens Section of the Royal British Legion are producing a badge this year?

I did hear that there was some doubt if the RBLWS would be producing any further annual badges.

My last one was 2010. If you have any spare from then until now I could be interested. I used to get mine from a lady called Margaret -lost all other details of this lady. She was a member of the RBL Womens Section.

I was getting mine from Margaret too. I have the complete run of them.

The last one I got was last year, when she told me that there was some question about any future issues of RBLWS annual badges.

I have had no reply to an email I sent to Margaret long before Easter, but I can send her contact details via PM, if you want them..

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I'm trying to put together a record of all the RBLWS Annual Pins.

Have managed to find a lot of photos from online copies of WS magazine but am still missing a few years , anyone got any pics ?

I've only got 2002 pin (x2) so am on the lookout for any others.

Thanks

Mike

Found a 2006 pin in a small charity lot , then today when looking for something else came across 2000 and 2004 pins.

Already have 2002 (I seem to be going for even numbers :)) , still lots more to find.

Edit : Just got 2015 :D

Recently picked up a small 'job lot' of RBLWS items , documents/badges/"bits and bobs".

They arrived in a plastic 'documents' folder and appear to me to have been from a member attending the 1996 Conference.

Documents
Agenda for 1996 National Conference (The Winter Gardens,Blackpool).
Annual Report and Accounts 1994-1995.
Report and Financial Statements for year ending September 1995.
Donations recieved for 1995.
Circular (magazine/pamphlet) Number 381-March 1996.

Bits & Bobs
2xNotebook Pencils - 1 British Legion and 1 Royal British Legion.
Small scissors and case - RBL Disabled Men's Industries Ltd. (Don't know when name changed to RBLI ?).
RBLWS Tea Towel - Linen , Made in Northern Ireland.

Badges
Small 'Vice Chairman' badge.
2xStandard RBLWS and 1 RBLWS small pin (WS in middle).
Small 15 Year service badge - Different fitting type to others I have( any idea when this was used ?).
6xBritish Legion WG badges , one faded (possibly used ?) the other 5 look as if they are "brand new old stock".

I know the first official British Legion Battlefields Pilgrimage was in 1928 and that there is a Royal British Legion version (post 1971) of the WG badge (thanks to Jerry's excellent album) but I am guessing there is no way to date the British Legion WG badges.

All the items in this lot appear to have been 'filed away' after the Conference and look as if they have never seen the light of day until they were sold.

Had to laugh at this description of W.G badges ! :D

"Two old WELSH GUARDS lapel pin badges Supporting the British Legion."

Further to this, I am attaching a scan of a 2019 RBLWS badge.

It is a shiny brass coloured badge with some sort of clear plastic layer on the top. Thus the scan is of poor quality, but will give an idea of what to look for.

Around the edge of the badge is written "Royal British Legion Women's Section" in black lettering, and "2019" at the bottom. "Winchester" is written across a depiction of Winchester Cathedral.

The National Conference of the RBLWS was held at Winchester on 31st January 2019.

There was some debate about the future of the RBLWS, and thus also the annual badges. It seems possible that they could be changing the type of design from "girly" interests, and linking the annual badge with the conference location.

We shall see in 2020.

Thanks for the info and photo , at least now I'll know what to keep an eye out for.

Some of the Conference/Branch badges don't immediately scream RBL at first glance.

mike_vee 19-10-19 11:42 AM

Half way - almost !

Found a few more Conference pins (not listed as RBL) , so now have from 2000 - 2006 + 2009 and 2015.( 9 out of 20)

It's taken me 8 month but it shows that they do appear but hard to find as descriptions confusing and hard to search for.

When I first saw this badge (in Jerry's album) I couldn't figure out the connection between Blackpool and Scotland.

Now all is revealed .:D

Only problem is that this is the Conference badge for 1998 and the first of the Conference lapel pin is 2000 , so was there a 1999 badge/pin ?

1999 was the 75th Anniversary of the RBLWS Scotland and they issued a pin.

May 1999 was also another 75th Anniverary:

"Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother today reviewed a Parade of Standards of the Royal British Legion Women's Section in the garden at Clarence House to mark the 75th Anniversary of Her Majesty's Presidency."

Was there a special/commemorative pin/badge for this rather than a Conference one ?

Another one got !

Only 6 more to find 2007,2008 ,2010 , 2017,2018,2019.

If anyone sees or has any please let me know , thanks ! :)

2018 Pin ?

1 Attachment(s)
Found a photo on RBLWS Northern Ireland page of this pin , described as "Our 2018 Women's Section Pin". Does anyone know if this was for the Annual Conference or for the local branch ?

P.S I'm also after a clear picture of the 2008 pin.

Thanks.

Thanks !

Picked up a job lot that include a caseworker , WS treasurer , 4 WS Conference pins (2000/2001/2005/2006) and this unusual one.

Can't find anything about it on the internet but was wondering if it could 'possibly' have any connection to 1999 ?

The way the two C's are positioned give the impression of a stylised E , could this be a tribute to the 75 years of Elizabeth The Queen Mother's Presidency of the Women's Section ?

I may be grasping at straws , anyone have any other ideas ?

Another unusual one , the 2006 WS Conference pin celebrated their 85th anniversary so this may 'possibly' be a local/branch item ?

I've got 19 out of the 22 "WS Conference" pins issued but because I usually have to buy a 'job lot' to get the one badge I need I've ended up with 18 spares/doubles !

Not the usual conference pin but this "Visitor" badge is a nice addition. Not sure when it is from , will have to find out when "Disabled Men's Industries Ltd" changed to RBLI.

Named gold BL badge

2 Attachment(s)
Hi all

While searching for something that still eludes me, I came across this named gold BL badge. The hallmark would appear to be for 1953 and the naming is:

Lt. Col. W.A.N. Baker, O.B.E., M.C.

I've established that his OBE was awarded in 1944 for services to the Home Guard ( Walmington-on-Sea???) but ma guessing that his MC was for WW1.

Anyone able to give me more details, such as full name, etc.

Hi Mike

Many, many thanks for your info as supplied.

I was certain that I had another named BL gold badge (other than the previously posted photo of the "big 'un" )but couldn't put my hand on it when we first started our exchanges.

I think that it was an early eBay acquisition quite a few years back.

Have contacted them to see if they are still available.

Only got two left to find , 2018 & 2019 , and she is trying to find them for me.

For her time , effort and generosity all she asked for was that I make a donation .

Women's Section Badges

3 Attachment(s)
Four organisations were involved in the "founding" of the British Legion but I was not aware until now that the "Women's Section of the Comrades of the Great War" were instrumental in the forming of the "Women's Section of the British Legion"

A booklet produced by the WS last year states that they :
Quote:

agree to form the nucleus of the Women's Auxiliary Section of the British Legion.
This made me wonder what badge they initially wore ?

I have a "Women's Section of the Comrades of the Great War" badge which they would have worn and a "British Legion Women's Section badge" (Regd. Design number from 1922) but was there another badge inbetween ?

There is a "Women's Auxilliary - Comrades of the Great War" badge (which I don't have ) but don't know if this was a completely different group or a very short term (less than 1 year) badge to fill the gap.

Any opinions/suggestions welcome ! :D

Hi Mike,

Nice to see you posting! How are things? I got my Comrades/ Women's Auxiliary from South Africa via eBay a long time ago. As a large badge, the very few I've seen are often chipped.
