Whaler Squadron, RCAF?
1 Attachment(s)
I recently picked up this Crest Craft patch but I'm uncertain about its origin. I can't find any definitive reference to a Canadian RCAF Squadron which was nick-named, "Whaler". The Makers back-stamp indicates it was manufactured between 1942 and 1955.
Any thoughts?? |
Wayne. My guess is likely one of the 100 series Maritime Patrol squadrons.... 113, 116, 117 etc.... I can do some checking after work today through some reference material

Whaler Squadron
My dad was in the Whaler Squadron in WW2. I have the crest at home and he was in the 16pth Squadron of the RCAF.

Hi Kim. Thanks for that. Just to confirm, that's 116 Sqdn out of Botwood Harbour Newfoundland? I have read they didn't have an "official" badge so this must have just been something they had ordered up for their jackets.
Cheers. |
Whaler's Squadron
Yes, I had a typing error on my post, it was the 116th Squadron, but he flew out of Gander quite a bit; that's from the limited information I could get out of him about the war.

My father was in the 116th Squadron. Botwood in the summer, Halifax in the winter. Here are some patches.

Mxke, those are great items to have as memoirs from your dad. All very rare (to me) and unique designs for 116 Squadron; congratulations.

We kids are fortunate that Dad wrote a short story of his life in the RCAF.
