hi all
what are your thoughts on these RAAF items
they seem to be on black or is it just this light?
i dont have them at hand, this is the best pic i can do atm

The wings should be on a black background. The arm eagle appears to show the back of the badge as the eagle usually flies to the right (not left as in your picture). The black would be the backing material.

clearly im a novice with RAAF but i did think they were on a dark blue background

They can be on what appears black or very dark blue.

Both perfectly good badges, the top being an other ranks and NCOs shoulder eagle, the other a standard pair of pilots wings. I'd agree with Dave that you're seeing the back of the eagle.
