Army Fire service

Hi, Google search only seemed to return confusing answers, so can anyone please tell me what date the Army Fire Service became the Army Department Fire Service, when it ceased being part of the RAOC, and when it became complerely civilianised ? Additionally, did it retain the same cap badge when it changed from the Army Fire Service to the Army Department Fire Service or did the cap badge change too? and was the cap badge a normal size or smaller like a collar badge? I have only ever seen collar sized ones ?
Thanks for replies

Tony

Hi Tony ,theres 2 different anodised badges. Both in silver ano similar in design to the Life Guards badge. One reads "Army Fire Service" the other "Army Fire Service WD" . No clue on dates.

Thanks Mike, seems from what people are saying, the badge stayed the same when the name was changed, same as the WD Constabulary badge!

Not quite correct. One reads 'Army Fire Service' and the other reads 'Fire Service WD'

There are variations on dies and makers for both Army Fire Service (lugs) and War Department Fire Service (slider). As Mike says, effectively the same size as the Life Guards cap badge.

I've not seen collars.

The War Department Constabulary badge is larger and generally found with an unmarked slider.

The War department Constabulary badge is massive compared to the fire service badges. It's more the size of a police force badge when they wore that style of badge.

It is worth bearing in mind that the War Dept. Constabulary cap badge (senior officer & other ranks) have been massively reproduced.

Dave.

Many, police collectors tend not to be concerned with collecting manufacturers variations. In particular anything "anodised" tends to be shunned altogether in favour of an issued metal example. I do have an anodised version and have kept it simply because it was given to me as a freeby. That said, its a fairly poor representation of their badge, in my opinion.

Dave.
