Just from the photographs, I would think that is an original example, but, with the discolouration to the gilt.

This badge was in worn till at least 1953. Probably not worn during WW2.

I always associate them as being very popular post war, you will see much news footage from the late 1940's and 1950's of them in ware by aircrew.

These badges were introduced in 1947, basically being a small version of the peaked cap badge (the same applied to the Warrant Officers cap badge too).

The one-piece wool beret in blue/grey was first introduced for the RAF Regiment in May 1943 and began to be general issue by about 1946/47. To that point both officers and Warrant Officers wore the same two-piece eagle and crown badge as worn on the side cap.

As mentioned, this badge (above) was worn until 1953 when the change of crown began appearing.
